Photo of the Week: Arenal Volcano
December 30, 2012
The Arenal Volcano was one of my favourite places I visited this year. It is still listed as an active volcano located in La Fortuna, Costa Rica but it hasn’t spewed any lava in over a year now. In 1968 it erupted violently and unexpectedly, destroying the town of Tabacón and killing 87 people in the process. While the volcano is the reason many tourists visit the area it now boasts a number of other activities including whitewater rafting, zip line/canopy tours, wildlife viewing, hot springs, waterfall rapelling, hiking, caving, and horseback riding.

How nice that you’ve been able to travel to Costa Rica recently, especially to the La Fortuna area. I only traveled there for 3 weeks, but the area around La Fortuna and Volcan Arenal was my favorite.
Did you happen to make it to the rope swings that were right outside La Fortuna? The first 3 pictures in gallery from Costa Rica were at these ropeswings http://traveltransmissions.com/blog/category/photos/photos-by-country/photos-costa-rica/
Look familiar??
