Leading the Pack: Kim Paddon

Kim Paddon

With her signature glasses and passion for pink, Kim Paddon operates her business with sense and style. She first opened Whink, a downtown St. John’s boutique full of jewelry and beautiful things, in 2010 and things have been going strong ever since. Kim also recently starred in the NTV production, Entrepreneur NL, a locally produced reality show that showcased the lives of four local business owners. We caught up with Kim in St. John’s, NL to find out more about her travel style.

Roll, fold, scrunch or stuff? What’s your packing method?

I am a roller, but when my trip is over I end up being a stuffer ;)

Carryon or checked bag?

Checked bag girl.

Do you travel for work or pleasure?

What’s your favorite souvenir?

My favorite souvenir is my bronze budda. It has 4 faces, sad, happy, angry, laughing! It sits on my desk.

Kim PaddonA lot of people think they need special travel clothing. How do you maintain your personal style when you travel?

I don’t have special travel clothing, I just usually pack smart, in the sense that I bring pieces that I can dress up or down. Being the jewelry industry I stick with basics and dress everything up with accessories!

With which city/town do you identify, aesthetically?

I have travelled to many places all over the world, but I would have to say my home Newfoundland, especially rural Newfoundland.

I am famous for having vacation in my own backyard.

Do you have a favourite travel memory?

Too many! But I would have to say exploring the Na Pali Coast in Hawaii

Do your travels ever inspire the products you carry in your shop?

YES! Everywhere I go I always get inspired by nature and culture, which leads me to sketching my next jewelry design or finding a cool product to carry in Whink.

What’s in your carry-on?

  • Iphone
  • Charger
  • Ipad
  • Sketchbook
  • Lipstick
  • Hand sanitizer
  • A good book
