Yesterday, WestJet rolled into town to make an announcement. I had been invited, along with other media and travel professionals, to hear about their new route firsthand.
In the past, I’d had to go without data on my phone when I travelled. I was cheap and data roaming plans from my carrier were expensive. So I jumped from wifi hotspot to hotspot. I could copy down Google directions and if I got lost I could just hope that I was still in the cached area on the screen. Then I got my phone unlocked and it opened up new all kinds of new possibilities!
So there I was, crouched on the sidewalk outside a Rite Aid on West 12th St in New York City with a handful of tourists huddled around me. I was trying to simultaneously dress a wound and keep my shit together. I was only moderately successful on both fronts. So what happened?
When the craving for sunshine and sandals got too strong last year I gave in to the pull south. I didn’t book an all-inclusive vacation though. I chose an independent trip to Puerto Rico… and I think you should too.
