It can be tricky to find the perfect gift for a well-traveled woman. I’ve combed through tons of products and rounded up some of my own favourite items from the past year, as well as things that will be on my own Christmas list this year, to create my 2017 travel gift guide. When people come back from a trip, they like to talk about what they ate, what they did, and what they saw. I’m not going to do that right now. Instead I’m going to talk about what I didn’t see. Sometimes when I travel I’m struck by the absence of things that are common sights in my at home life. In England, I didn’t see pickup trucks. In South Korea, I didn’t see public trash cans. In the Philippines, I didn’t see cats. So what was it I didn’t see in Paris?
I’m sitting on a bean bag chair in one of the hostel’s common areas trying desperately not to scratch any of the 20+ itchy bug bites I’ve picked up in two days and listening to the thunder outside grow closer, putting a damper on my activity planning. Malta, we’ve gotten off to a rocky start.
Sometimes a trip is all about the food. Seeking out delicious new flavours. Discovering that quirky new eatery. Spending hours leisurely sipping wine and savouring your meal. Other times you just need to fuel and go.
