Foodie Friday: Toutons

Newfoundland touton | SuitcaseandHeels.com

I was in Central Newfoundland recently and decided to indulge in a weekend brunch at Noah’s on the Point in Glovertown. I was really happy to discover that their buffet included toutons. Mmm… if you think eggs bene is the epitome of brunch, you’ve never tried a touton. What is a touton? Toutons: Pronounced tout(rhymes with pout)-ens – are a traditional Newfoundland breakfast food made of bread dough pan fried in butter or, more rarely these days, pork fat. You might call it a Newfoundland pancake. I like mine best drizzled with fancy molasses but some people prefer maple syrup. When cooked up right they have a crispy outside with a chewy inside. More often than not they’re served as part of a full cooked breakfast which might also include fried eggs, baked beans, home fries, fried bologna, sausage, bacon or other breakfast meat. When a City Girl Goes Camping

Based on the name of this site, you’d assume that camping wasn’t my thing. And… well… you’re not entirely wrong. But I decided to put that to the test with a friend recently backcountry camping in Terra Nova National Park. What could possibly go wrong? We’d commune with nature, spend a night in the fresh air, and wake up to birds chirping next to a pond. What could go wrong?

When Is The Best Time to Visit Newfoundland?

When to Visit Newfoundland

Whenever I meet someone who has never been to my fair province, first I encourage them to come see us and second, I tell them that I think there’s one time of year that’s better than others to visit Newfoundland for the first time. And that time, my friends, is upon us right now. While there are cool things to do here at any time of the year my own favourite is from early-July to mid-August, when it feels like the province is full of colour and the people most lively. The temperatures finally warm up and we all come out of hibernation. The streets are full of people, the whales come out to play, and every weekend there’s a festival on the go somewhere.

A Convertible Travel Dress That Doesn’t Suck

Kameleon Convertible Travel Dress

I was sent my first convertible travel dress a few years ago to try…and it did not go well. I was excited to test it out because, back then, I was still a terrible overpacker and the thought of being able to pack one item for multiple outfits was enticing. The package arrived and I eagerly opened it up. “It’s…leopard print. Huh.” Would the KameleonRose convertible travel dress be different?
